Introduction:
Spinal tuberculosis (TB) affects individuals of all ages, but most commonly in children and young adults. This disease often results in numerous morbidities, which may lead to decreased health-related quality of life (HRQoL). To investigate the HRQoL of pediatric patients with spinal TB.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study design was used to evaluate the medical records of patients aged 0-18 years who visited the orthopedic outpatient clinic of Cipto Mangunkusumo, Jakarta, Indonesia, during the period of January 2012 to December 2016. Quality of life was measured using PedsQL questionnaire.
Results:
A total of 46 subjects were recruited in this study. There were 39 (84.8%) subjects withbone deformity, 20 (43.5%) subjects had suboptimal quality of life, with physical and educational aspects being mostly affected.
Conclusion:
The majority of children with spinal TB have optimal global quality of life. Further studies are required to investigate factors affecting the HRQoL of those with spinal TB.
